Comedian Paul Mooney has died aged 79
Paul Mooney has died at the age of 79.
The iconic comedian - best known for working as a writer on 'The Richard Prior Show', 'The Rosne Show' & 'Saturday Night Live' - visited his home in Oakland, California on Wednesday (19.05.21) But died , After a heart attack.
His publicist Cassandra Williams said in a statement: "Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to revive him after a heart attack. He was living with a family member who was a caretaker."
& his daughter Spring Mooney also confirmed her father's death on Twitter.
He wrote: “Give me a moment. My best friend just died & my world was shaken forever ! zreally can not express my feelings in words right now . know that I love this person & I am broken. (Sic) "
Paul was famous for playing the role of Sam Cook in 1978's The Buddy Holy Story, as well as Junebug in Spike Lee's acclaimed 2000 comedy Bamboo world.
The actor & comedian also starred in Dave Chappelle's smash hit 'Chapel Show'.
& after the news of his demise, many stars have taken to social media to honor his memory.
Viola Davis wrote: "Awww ... RIP Comedy legend Paul Mooney! You were both funny & poignant. So glad to see your talent live. Relax ! Add some laughter here. We need it. (Sic ) "
While director Ava DuVernay posted: "Paul Mooney. A comedy veteran. I remember listening to his race album in college & how creative it was. Yes, jokes. But more than that, freedom. He wrote about feelings & experiences. Talked freely & fearlessly. It became difficult to express to others. May he be truly independent now. Relax, Mr. President (sic) "
