‘Cruella’ opens summer box office as pandemic eases
(AP) - '101 Dalmatian' Love is not necessary to enjoy 'Cruella' available in theaters and to rent on Disney + from Friday.
This live-action film, starring Emma Stone and directed by Craig Gillespie ("I, Tonya"), is loosely related to the 1961 animated film (or the 1996 live-action picture with Glenn Close, for that matter).
Instead, it is a part punk, part camp origin story about a girl in London in the 1970s who dreams of designing high fashion and gets a shot from Emma Thompson's slightly tragic baroness.
The fashion
The film is less about a paranoid Dalmatian-skinner with a punk sensibility to disrupt stuffy London than an aspiring designer.
Departments such as hair and makeup and costume design work over time to blend into the fabric of the story.
But the storyline in "Cruella" was bringing him headlines, so the filmmakers enlisted some of the professions of costume designer Jenny Bevan and hair and makeup designer Nadia Stacey to help re-imagine a punk cruella .
