Hulu Adds Upcoming Los Angeles Lakers Docuseries to List of Original Content
Starting with his acquisition of the team in 1979, the documentary captured Jerry Boos' remarkable journey to create, maintain and pass the sports empire of family travel. The project would provide a new and engaging look within the legendary "Showtime" era, which won the team five NBA titles and turned the Forum into Hollywood's hottest ticket in the 1980s. The series also details the court and unbelievable successes of the championship teams led by Kobe Bryant and Shakeel O'Neill, as well as the cultural impact of the Lakers franchise and the team's rebirth, culminating with the 2020 NBA. The championship was led by LeBron James and Anthony Davis. At heart is a story about sports, business and, most of all, family - and how those competing forces must be prepared to gain rigor.
Talking about the series, Buss said:
In 1979 when Drs. When Buss bought the Lakers, he sat alone in the center court of the forum and thought of all the possibilities. But even in his wildest dreams, my father would not have imagined what the next decade would bring for our organization, our league, and our city of Los Angeles. I am thrilled that the true story of the Lakers will finally be shared with the world - and we are in such capable hands with one director, Hulu and Antoine, whose story I admired over the years.
Fuqua shared:
We are proud to bring this documentary to the world and throw light on the legendary history of the Lakers. It is one of the largest sports franchises ever. This is a project about which we all feel deeply.
Hulu's Belissa Balaban added:
The Los Angeles Lakers are one of sports' most prolific franchises. He has a history of epic epics and tragic ascensions, and generations of great players and teams that have made a deep impact not only on the sports world, but also on culture. We are honored to join Jean and Antoine and the entire creative team, which is very real for the Hulu audience to witness the remarkable story of the rise and fall and for the Lakers to rise again.
