Britain's Johanna Konta was withdrawn from Wimbledon on Sunday after she was deemed a close contact of a team member who tested positive for COVID-19.
World No. 31, 2017 Wimbledon semifinalist & Britain's highest-ranked woman, Konta was eliminated from the draw & was replaced by China's Wang Yafan.
"A member of Johanna Konta's team presented with COVID-19 symptoms this morning, & was immediately isolated & underwent a PCR test in accordance with the championship's testing protocol," Wimbledon said in a statement. "A positive result returned, resulting in the AELTC (All England Club), along with Public Health England, identifying Johanna Konta as a close contact. In line with government law, she is required to self-isolate for 10 days & so has been withdrawn from the championship.
“Both Johanna & her team member had tested negative in all previous tests conducted within the protocol of the championship. Both individuals were advised of a positive test & close-contact classification & were now able to self-quarantine for the next 10 days. are separate."
Konta had to face Czech Republic's Katerina Sinakova in the first round.
