Madeleine McCann disappearance 'could be solved in months' German investigators claim
EXCLUSIVE: Prosecutor Hans Christian Wolters says his team is pleased with their progress after announcing Christian Brueckner as their prime suspect in the high profile case a year ago
Prosecutors leading the investigation into Madeleine McCann suspect Christian Brueckner said the case could be resolved in months.
German Hans Christian Wolters revealed that his team is "delighted" how the investigation has progressed over the past year & has received "very interesting suggestions".
He added: "We are hopeful that we can resolve the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, although this will take several months.
"We are pleased with the response to our appeal for witnesses. But unfortunately not all of our questions have been answered."
Asked when Brueckner would be questioned, he said: "At the end of the investigation. When we have completed our investigation, we will inform the public about the result & then further details." "
Convicted pedophile Brueckner was living in a camper van near Praia da Luz on the Algarve when Madeleine went missing in May 2007, shortly before her fourth birthday.
German & UK police first learned of him as a suspect in 2017, but only went public with the information last June.
Since then senior investigators have interviewed a range of potential key witnesses in Germany & Portugal. They include Brueckner's British ex-girlfriend, who claims he brutally assaulted her.
Investigators revealed last year that her mobile phone was "pinged" near the resort the night she went missing, while parents Kate & Gerry were doing tapas with friends.
Mr Wolters, who believes Madeleine is dead, said that his team still has not tracked down the mystery person Bruckner called that night.
He also revealed that officers have not spoken to Rothley, Leix's Kate & Gerry about the matter. He did not give up hope that his daughter was alive.
Brueckner's former friends told the Mirror last week that they fear he will never be charged. One said: "It's crazy that the German police did not see Chris in prison or interview him.
"We fear he will never face justice and may come back here again."
And Chief Inspector Peter Kirkham, a former Scotland Yard detective, said he believes the investigation is "drying up fast".
Brueckner is serving a seven-year sentence in a German prison for raping a pensioner in Praia da Luz. He is being investigated for allegedly exposing himself to children at the playground of the Algarve.
