Meghan Markle Gives Birth to a Baby Girl!
The newest member of the Sussex family is finally here!
Archie is officially a big brother! The Duchess of Sussex gave birth to a little girl on Friday, Meghan and Harry announced. A statement confirming the good news was issued today by a spokesperson for the couple.
"It is with great pleasure that Prince Harry and Meghan, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex, welcome their daughter, Lillibet 'Lily' Diana Mountbatten-Windsor, into the world. Lily was born on Friday, 4 June at 11:40 am Dependable care of doctors and staff at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital in Santa Barbara, CA," reads an official announcement.
Both mother and baby are reportedly in good health after delivery, and the little girl weighs 7 lb 11 oz.
According to the statement released by the couple, Lily is named for both her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth and her late grandmother, Princess Diana: "Lily is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty The Queen, whose family surname Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales."
Harry and Meghan's announcement also included a message of thanks that read, "The Duke and Duchess thank you for your warm wishes and prayers as they enjoy this special time as a family."
The second child of the Sussexes is now eighth in line to the British throne, just behind her brother Archie. Her birth knocks Prince Andrew (and everyone else) down one spot. The new royal baby also marks the fifth grandson of Prince Charles and the eleventh great-grandson for Queen Elizabeth.
