An in-game report from ESPN's Chris Budden during the Texas-Mississippi State game sheds more light on the COVID-19 situation, which has attracted a lot of attention around the College World Series in recent days.
All tested, approved and ready to play Monday in Omaha for Vanderbilt.
Vanderbilt advanced Monday to the final series, a best-of-3 event, after the scheduled game against NC State on Saturday was called a no-contest as the Wolfpack dealt with a series of positive tests in their schedule.
Earlier on Saturday, a report from D1 Baseball said the local Douglas County Health Department would determine which members of the Vanderbilt travel team would need to undergo routine COVID-19 testing — all, or only potentially unrelated members.
Wolfpack had just 13 players on 27 Fridays due to "COVID-19 health and safety protocols". The Commodores defeated the Wolfpack 3–1 behind Kumar Rocker's Mani after the game was initially delayed by an hour after the NCAA required time to meet "health and safety protocols". The state said that "several players" had entered into the COVID-19 protocol.
Vanderbilt faces the winner of Mississippi State-Texas in the College World Series Finals on Monday. Longhorns and Bulldogs are having a game tonight. That series would be a best 2-out-of-3. Commodore won the 2019 CWS. There was no tournament last year due to the pandemic.
