Melbourne: A Melbourne cricket club has claimed that it is very close to signing Yuvraj Singh and Chris Gayle for the T20 matches to be held this summer.
Malgrave Cricket Club, which plays in Melbourne's Eastern Cricket Association (ECA) third-tier competition, said they are also in talks with West Indies legend Brian Lara and South African great AB de Villiers.
Mulgrave has already roped in Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan and Upul Tharanga with Sanath Jayasuriya as their head coach for the summer.
Mulgrave chairman Milan Pulaneygam said talks are on with former India all-rounder Yuvraj and West Indies Gayle.
"We have secured Dilshan, we have secured Sanath, we have secured Tharanga. And now we are finalizing agreements with some other potential players," Pulenyegam told 'cricket.com.au'. Working on giving."
"We are in talks, and with Chris (Gayle) and Yuvraj we are around 85 to 90 per cent. We need to finalize some things but it looks really good."
However, both the cricketers are yet to comment on the conversation.
The president said the club is trying to add more sponsors to sign big stars.
"We've got a good amount of support at the moment that will take us over the line, but we don't want to break it, we want to be able to give back to the community and expand the structure of the club."
"It's a process, with these big-name players in their trip to Australia we need to include a lot of things: we'll provide them with accommodation, their travel, food etcetera, there's a lot of background material that we need arrange for them.
"Over here we want to put them in touch with their sponsors and see if they can give something back to the club and the sponsors. So it's all part of the conversation and conversation that we're having with them."
ECA's T20 Cup will have 3 preliminary matches between November and February before a knock-out phase of three more games.
The website also reported that any international player is likely to play only one or two games.
