Fain Hudson-Prentice is to join Sussex from Derbyshire at the end of the season.
Hudson-Prentice, a 25-year-old seamer, developed through the Sussex route and played seven first-team games for the club in 2014 and 2015. He was released at the end of 2016.
The MCC Young Cricketers program gave him another chance, however, and he was signed by Derbyshire in 2019. He is the club's equal leading wicket-taker this season in the LV = Insurance County Championship (24.95 with 21). He scored 99 in his maiden first-class appearance for the club and was included in the team that made it to the T20I final in 2019. As such, he is seen as a multi-dimensional all-rounder who can contribute across formats.
Sussex's T20 head coach, James Kirtley, said: "I remember facing Finn in the Lord's Test match when he was with the MCC Young Cricketers and actually the way he has gone about things since leaving Sussex. Was thinking, seeing a change in that." "I kept an eye on him when he went to Derbyshire and it was exciting to see him do really well over the years.
"The Finn has grown as a player and a person. He is a Sussex boy, he is an artist, a match winner and his skills give us the real balance in our favor in all three formats. It is for us with strategy. ticks the box we have found and will continue to do so."
The news is a blow to Derbyshire, however, who are in the middle of a bad season. They are ranked below the North Group in the Championship and seventh in the North Group of the T20 Blast. He is also being sued by a former club veteran, Tony Palladino.
"I am very grateful for the time I have spent at Derbyshire over the past three seasons," said Hudson-Prentice, "and I wish the club the very best for the future."
"Although I enjoyed my time at the club, I could not turn down the opportunity to go back home where it all began. I am really looking forward to the next chapter of my career at Hove."
