ATLANTA: Brooks Koepka withdrew from the Tour Championship on Saturday after injuring his left wrist after hitting a tree root in the 10th hole of East Lake Golf Club. He played two more holes before being dismissed.
Koepka, who was tied for 25th in the stroke-converting Tour Championship FedEx Cup playoff final, was equal to 3 overs for his round when he withdrew. They will receive a FedEx Cup bonus amount of $395,000 for finishing last.
"That same wrist I had problems with in '17 and '18 so I'm just making sure it's all good," Koepka said.
The four-time major winner missed the Masters in 2018 due to wrist problems but defended his US Open title two months later. He also won the PGA Championship that year.
Koepka, ranked 10th in the world, won the Waste Management Phoenix Open in February and had good success ahead of the FedEx Cup playoffs. He finished second at the PGA Championship, fourth at the US Open, fifth at the Travelers, and sixth at the Open. He entered the Tour Championship tied for 16th place in the FedEx standings.
Koepka in the U.S. Earned one of six automatic qualifying places for the Ryder Cup team. The Ryder Cup begins on September 24.
