Italy wins Eurovision 2021
Rotterdam, Netherlands, 22 May (EFE). Italy's entry took top honors in the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest on Saturday.
"Zitti a Buoni", a garage rock anthem with Italian lyrics by Manskin, took 524 points to earn Italy their 1st win at the event since 1990, & third overall.
While the competition was canceled in 2020 due to the Kovid-19 epidemic, most of the artists entering last year re applied for the 2021 competition.
A crowd of 3,500 people who tested negative for coronovirus were allowed to attend the Rotterdam Ahoye Conference Center in this Dutch port city & the gala in the area.
The organizers did not require the audience to wear masks or follow social distance.
Finishing second in the voting was Barbara Prouvie of France with "Voila", who scored 499 points. Switzerland took third place (432 points) with "Tout L'univers", which was done by Gjon Tiers.
Iceland was in fourth place with "10 Years", by grandmother Freire Og Gagnamagnid, who performed via video-link due to pandemic travel restrictions. This was followed by Blind Channel with "Shum" by Ukraine & "Dark Side" of Finland.
The Maltese contender by Destiny, "Je Me Kase", was seventh from Lithuania's "DiscoTech".
Russia finished ninth with "Russian Women" by Manizha & Greece completed the top 10 with Stephania's "Last Dance".
The finals included the good scoring entries from the semi-finals, with submissions from Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain - who are automatic finalists as they provide funding for Eurovision - & the Netherlands as the previous winners
The Spanish entry, Blas Canto's "Voy a Quédérme", finished second from the bottom, in 24th place, but still outperformed the United Kingdom "Embers", which was screened by James Newman with zero points. EFE JHV / Dr
