Kamala Harris pays tribute to fallen military after tone-deaf tweet
Vice President Kamala Harris posted a more fitting tribute to the US military on Sunday, a day after her fellow countrymen drew heat online to "enjoy the long weekend".
"Throughout our history our service men and women have put everything at risk to protect our freedom and our country," read Harris's message on Sunday morning. "As we prepare to honor him on Memorial Day, we remember his service and his sacrifice."
On Saturday afternoon, Harris' official account posted a smiling photo of the vice president alongside his earlier message, drawing rebuke from supporters and detractors alike.
The response to the Vice President's Sunday message on Twitter was mixed, with some users saying it was too little, too late. Others, along with Harris, did not specifically mention military members who lost their lives in the war.
Former Trump 2020 campaign communications director Tim Murto suggested that Harris sent Sunday's tweet "24 hours after 'Memorial Day'."

The "Enjoy the long weekend" tweet was still on until Sunday afternoon.
Also on Sunday, President Biden attended a Memorial Day remembrance ceremony in New Castle, Del., Not far from his Wilmington home.
The president will also attend the official Memorial Day ceremony at the Arlington National Ceremony on Monday.
