Denmark midfielder Christian Eriksen will be fitted with a heart starter device after he collapsed during the first match of Euro 2020 against Finland on Saturday, the team's national team doctor said in a statement on Thursday.
Ericsson's life was saved when he was given CPR on the pitch and his heart was restarted with a defibrillator before being taken to the hospital, where he is recovering.
They will receive an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD), a small electronic device, a type of pacemaker that can stop a fatal heart rate by discharging a shock to restore a regular heart rhythm.
"After several different heart tests, it has been decided that he should have an ICD," Dr Morten Boesen said in a statement. "This device is essential after a cardiac attack because of rhythm disturbances.
"Christians have accepted the solution and the plan has been ratified by experts nationally and internationally who all recommend the same treatment."
