Nani continued his sensational season with a fine strike in the 80th minute as they toured Orlando City to register a 2-1 win over Inter Miami on Friday.
Nani also helped equalize Chris Mueller seven minutes earlier as Orlando (6-1-3, 21 points) finished a perfect week with three wins in seven days.
In the process, the Lions moved back to second place in the Eastern Conference, two points behind New England.
Nani now has six goals and three assists, making him directly involved in half of Orlando's goals this year. Two of those goals and all those assists have come in the Lions' last two games.
After Miami was left at home due to fitness concerns in the previous game, Gonzalo Higuain made six coming into the match as a second-half substitute to give Inter Miami (2-6-2, 8 points) a brief lead. Scored a minute later. 1–0 defeat at DC United on June 19.
Fit or not, Higuain has five goals in a season when no one else has more than one for Miami. But unlike last time he scored, this time he could not stop the Herons from falling for their fourth consecutive defeat.
At home and with almost a full week to prepare, Miami fared better in the opening hours, though it created only a few serious chances.
That changed when Higuain came on the field in the 61st minute. When he was replaced minutes later, he lowered a 25-yard strike just beyond goalkeeper Brandon Austin's dive and inside the left post.
But it took six minutes before Nani reached a long diagonal ball down the right flank and returned a cross in the penalty area.
Muller was there to complete it, attacking the first volley to give goalkeeper John McCarthy little chance.
McCarthy had little hope seven minutes later, when Nani hit the ball to the left edge, cut towards the corner of the penalty area, then drove the top of the right foot into the top right corner.
