‘Raya and the Last Dragon’ Is Now Streaming For Free on Disney+
Raya and the Last Dragon is finally available for free on Disney+. The new animated film recently debuted under the platform's Premiere Access tier, meaning subscribers had to pay an additional fee on top of their subscription rate to watch the movie. But that period has passed, and now, Disney+ subscribers can stream the movie at no extra cost.
Disney+ announced Premiere Access with the release of its live-action adaptation of Mulan, which dropped last September. These new movies, which are also released in theaters (when and if they were open at that time), cost an additional $29.99 to watch on top of the $7.99 Disney+ monthly subscription fee. That may sound like a lot — but Premiere Access to each movie is a one-time purchase, meaning viewers can stream the movie over and over again.
Raya and the Last Dragon takes place in the fictional world of Kumandra, where humans and dragons were once able to live in harmony. When demons threaten the land, however, dragons step in to save humanity from extinction. Now, enter Raya (Kelly Marie Tran): a warrior who must set out to find the last dragon and pay back by saving his kind.
"Raya and the Last Dragon's top layer is stunning, a visual splendor enriched with postcard cinematography and thoughtfully crafted set pieces," John Cerba of Desider wrote in his review of the film. "The story, however, is typical fantasy-travel fodder with fantastical creatures, heroic warriors, colorful-oddball supporting characters, and special powerful gems as always with special powerful gems."
Along with Raya and The Last Dragon, Mulan was another new release that moved from Disney+ Premiere Access to regular Disney+. Usually, it takes three months for movies to be released on streamers for free. Cruella is currently streaming in the Premiere Access section of the platform. The Emma Stone-led original flick will be released for free on streamers later this summer, August 27th. Watch out for the new releases Black Widow and Jungle Cruise, which are set to release in theaters simultaneously and later for Disney+ Premiere Access. heat.
Disney+ has yet to announce whether any of their other upcoming films, such as Free Guy or Shang-Chi and The Seven Rings will head to Disney+ Premiere Access, or receive a special in-theater debut. For now, the wait for Raya and the Last Dragon is over - get streaming!
