Brazil reached the final of the Copa America after a first-half goal from Lucas Paqueta - their second in two matches - registered a 1-0 win over Peru on Monday.
The host nation will take on the winner of Tuesday's second semi-final between Argentina and Colombia in the title match at the Maracan Stadium on Saturday.
Brazil have won the Copa America every time they host the tournament and the opening part of Monday's match showed why they are the favorites to do so again.
Within the first 20 minutes, Peru goalkeeper Pedro Gallis made two point-blank saves in succession from Neymar and Richardson, as well as two other blocks when Casemiro tried his luck from the front.
With Paqueta, who scored the winner in their 1–0 quarterfinal win over Chile, a standout in midfield, Brazil played some complicated, audacious football, filled with flicks, nutmeg and backheels, but it took them 35 to break the deadlock. Took minutes.
Neymar beat three men on the left and passed the goal for Paqueta to volley home the ball from 10 meters.
"It was a very tough game, very hard fought," Paqueta said. "They are a very strong side but we managed to make it through a difficult period."
Neymar was quick to praise his teammate and said that there was more to come.
"Paqueta is a great player, he is getting better with every game," he said. "He had a great season with his club and here he is showing that he can be a very important player for Brazil."
While Brazil were in the lead in the opening round, it was a different story in the second half as the introduction of Marcos López and Razil GarcÃa at the break woke Peru.
After losing in the final in 2019, Peru went ahead in search of an equalizer with Gianluca Lapadula, forcing Ederson into a crucial block, with the Brazilian goalkeeper looking uneasy on some other occasions.
Peru trailed Brazil for a long spell of the second half, but their possession could not count as the home team extended their unbeaten run to 13 games.
