England have included Tom Banton in their squad for the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Bristol on Sunday.
Banton, the 22-year-old Somerset top-order batsman, hit a 47-ball century in the Vitality T20 Blast earlier in the week. He has played six ODIs and nine T20 Internationals for England.
He joins the squad to provide back-up with David Malan, currently absent due to personal reasons. England's first-choice batting line-up, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes are also missing due to injury.
In a different era, Banton, who has more touch than Kevin Pietersen about his batting, may already be established in England's limited overs. But with the impressive depth of top-order options currently in place, Banton is bound to wait for another opportunity. He has been preferred to other options such as Phil Salt, Alex Hales or Sam Hahn.
Somerset confirmed that Banton will miss his derby in the Blast against Gloucestershire on Thursday evening, as well as in his home match against Middlesex on Friday.
England lead 1-0 in the three-match ODI series and will take on Sri Lanka at The Oval in day-night play on Thursday.
