Congress MP, Who Had Covid, Dies; "Leader With Much Potential," Says PM
Rajeev Satav was in critical condition after being diagnosed with a new viral infection, PTI reported quoting Maharashtra health minister Rajesh Tope.
New Delhi: Senior Congress leader and MP Rajiv Satav died in a private hospital in Pune this morning. Rahul Gandhi tweeted, “This is a big loss for all of us,” addressing Mr. Satava as “my friend” who embodied the ideals of the Congress.
“Rajiv Satava went RT-PCR swab negative on May 9, 2021. However, after prolonged illness, he died of secondary pneumonia with multi-organ dysfunction at 4:58 am on May 16,” Jahangir Hospital, Where the Congress leaders were recruited said in a statement.
According to Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope, the 46-year-old was in critical condition after a new viral infection was detected.
“Rajeev Satava was on his way to recovery, but his health deteriorated again and his condition is now critical. Doctors found that he had a cytomegalovirus infection,” Tope was quoted as saying by PTI on Saturday.

In her condolence message, Sonia Gandhi said she was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the party leader, “who was a trusted ally and a friend to all of us”. He said that this is also his personal loss. He said, “Rajiv Satava was only 46 years old, yet due to his tireless dedication, honesty and hard work, he rose from the grassroots to carry out many responsibilities in a very short time.”
Hailing from Maharashtra, Mr. Satava was in charge of the affairs of the party in Gujarat, where the Congress fought a spirited battle in the last assembly election.
All India Congress Committee General Secretary KC Venugopal said that the Congress had lost its frontline warriors, members of the Congress Working Committee, MPs and one of the most promising youth leaders. He tweeted, “I am devastated by irreparable damage. The party will always remember his indelible dedication, involvement and immense popularity. My heartfelt condolences.”
Congress chief spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said he had been left speechless.
“Today I lost a fellow who took the first step of public life with me in the Youth Congress and walked till today ... We remember the simplicity of Rajiv Satav, always smiling, connected with the grassroots, loyalty and friendship forever Will keep. Goodbye my friend. Keep shining wherever you are. “
