Doja Cat Says The Weeknd 'Was Obsessed' with Their New Collaboration on Her Album
The Weeknd previously told Doja Cat's Billboard, "Doja is a star, and has created a unique universe in which you want to lose yourself."
Doja Cat is considering The Weeknd's contribution to her upcoming album.
After being awarded the trophy for the top R&B female artist on Sunday at the 2021 Billboard Music Awards, the 25-year-old rapper and singer revealed to E! News that her collaboration with The Weeknd (Ann Abel McConnen Tesfaye) on "You Right" - which will appear on Planet Har, dropping this summer - took a different route than originally expected.
"I knew I wanted The Weeknd on this album, but we did not know what to do. And we played him a song and we thought it's the perfect song, but it's not working," Doja. (Ni Amala) said Ratna Zandile Dalmini).
A different song was heard on the album after The Weeknd, though ("You Right"), "he was obsessed with it," the "Se So" singer shared.

Doja said, "It was already finished with two verses, but he was obsessed with it & all I wanted was a very good response." "It's a beautiful, beautiful song."
The Weeknd - which rocked the BBMA on Sunday, taking home 10 of the 16 awards for which they were nominated - had previously told Billboard that Doja was "a star" who "created a unique universe in which you Just want to lose yourself. "
Doja & The Weeknd, 31, previously collaborated on the song "In Your Eyes (Remix)" from their 2020 After Hours album, meaning "You Right" would mark their second time working together.
"He has so much drive and a huge creative vision that we will see his influence for a very long time to come," he told Billboard of Doja.
Doja was in BBMA for four other categories: Top New Artists, Top R&B Artists, Top R&B Albums & Top R&B Songs. (The latter three went to Weeknd.) He performed his song "Kiss Me More" with SZA.
The singer told E! The evening is reported to have marked "one of the most exciting moments of my career".
"Also, just 'cause I do not have to' sleep 'for the 1st time," Doja joked besides. "So, that's great."
The 2021 Billboard Music Awards aired live from Los Angeles on Sundays from 8 to 11 pm. EST on NBC.
