Major changes revealed for ‘Overwatch 2’ as hero reworks and new modes are announced
"Heroes like Baishan are being reviewed and reworked from the ground up"
Blizzard announced a complete resale for several heroes in Overwatch 2, as well as major changes to the overall gameplay.
In a blog post remodeling the Overwatch 2 stream yesterday (May 20), Blizzard confirmed several upcoming changes to the much-awaited game.
Heroes like Mei will gain power attenuation, making them less potent and allowing for 'fair' play. Others, such as Bastian, will be "reworked from the ground up", which Blizzard says will be "major changes to the way the protagonist plays".
"This change will result in rebalancing and adjustment across the board," the post continued, "We want to give you a glimpse at how things are coming together for some heroes later this year".
A change from 6v6 teams to 5v5 teams was also announced. Each team in Overwatch 2 will be made up of a tank, two supports and two damage heroes.
"At the center of this change is the change in mindset surrounding the role of the tank, which was previously discussed during BlizzConline, focuses on another controversy-style gameplay.
"Focusing on your team's safety to face-to-face combat is projected to have an impact on the flow & speed of the PvP experience."
The stream and blog posts also covered the introduction of new role passives, which are boosts that affect players when they are on cool-down. The hero of the damage will now move faster, regenerating support health while resting, and the tanks will have fewer knocks.
The stream also included live Overwatch 2 gameplay and map exploration, new look for heroes and footage of new game modes.
In recent news, Overwatch director & Blizzard Entertainment vice president Jeff Kaplan has announced that he is leaving the company after 19 years.
