Writer Michael Lewis' 19-year-old daughter dies in crash
Los Angeles (AP) - The 19-year-old daughter of "Moneyball" writer Michael Lewis & former MTV reporter Tabitha Soren died in a Northern California highway accident.
Dixie Lewis was a passenger in a car driven by her friend & former Berkeley High School classmate, 20-year-old Ross Shultes, who according to her family & authorities died in an accident Tuesday afternoon.
"We loved him very much & none of us have experienced this kind of pain," Michael Lewis said in a statement to Berkeleside, a community news site that first reported the deaths. "She was in love with Ross, with whom she died. She loved to live & our hearts are so broken that she can not search words to describe this feeling."
Michael Lewis said that his family, which includes his siblings Walker and Quinn, "will search ways to live up to his memory in his absence." A statement from Shultes' family said they would keep her memory "dear & present & search ways to remember her & Dixie forever."
California Highway Patrol Officer Jacob Williams told Berkeleyside that Schultz and Lewis were heading north on State Route 89 from Lake Tahoe toward the city of Truckee when their sedan crossed into oncoming traffic & collided with a southbound truck. Has gone.
Williams said why the car crossed the double-yellow line was unclear & witnesses to the crash were being searched. According to the website, the truck driver suffered minor injuries, identifying him as a 45-year-old Nevada man.
A call to the CHP to ask for more information about the accident did not immediately respond on Saturday.
According to Burkleside, Dixie Lewis graduated from high school last year & completed her 1st year at Pomona College, where she played on the softball team. Schultes, part of the high school's championship soccer team, completed his second year at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Many of Michael Lewis's non-fiction books have been adapted for films, including "Moneyball" starring Brad Pitt & "The Blind Side" with Sandra Bullock. His newly published book is "The Premotion: A Pandemic Story".
Lewis & Soren, who was a political reporter for MTV & are a photographer, married in 1997.
