Antoine Griezmann had his contract with Konami canceled after a controversial video surfaced of him and teammate Ousmane Dembele on Barcelona's tour of Japan in 2019.
Konami's decision comes just a day after Barca's main sponsor, Japanese e-commerce company Rakuten, sought a response from the Catalan club over a video that showed players mocking Asian staff.
Griezmann, who doesn't actually speak in the footage, is first called the Yu-Gi-Oh! Which is a cartoon series and video game under the Konami umbrella.
"Konami Digital Entertainment believes, as is the game's philosophy, discrimination of any kind is unacceptable," a statement from the Japanese entertainment company said.
"We announced Griezmann as our Yu-Gi-Oh! content ambassador, however in light of recent events we have decided to terminate the contract."
Konami is also one of Barca's official partners through the video game Pro Evolution Soccer, and they want to know if the club will remedy.
"With respect to our eFootball PES franchise, we would request FC Barcelona, as a club partner, to explain the details of the matter and any future action," the statement read.
ESPN has reached out to Barcelona for comment.
On Tuesday, Rakuten CEO Hiroshi Mikitani demanded a full explanation from the club as the backlash from the video continued.
A source has confirmed that Griezmann has since apologized personally to Mikitani, who has already apologized on social media.
France Forward wrote that he was "absolutely against all forms of discrimination" and that he "denies the allegations made against me and I am sorry if I have offended any of my Japanese friends."
Dembele also posted an apology, but despite regretting his actions, both players protested that there was no racist intent behind the video.
"It all happened in Japan, but it could have happened anywhere on the planet and I would have used the same expression," Dembele said.
"That's why I wasn't targeting any community. I used this type of expression with my friends, whatever their origins."
In the video, Dembele says to Griezmann: "All these ugly faces, just so you can play PES, aren't you ashamed?"
Griezmann's audio has been suppressed but he doesn't seem to be saying anything. He's laughing as technicians try to fix a television on a tour of Japan from two years ago.
Seven months ago, Griezmann ended its affiliation with another Asian company, Huawei. He said there were "strong suspicions" that the Chinese tech giant had contributed to the repression of the Uighurs, a mostly Muslim minority.
