England manager Gareth Southgate praised his team for reaching the final of their first tournament in 55 years, but said Italy, their opponent in Sunday's European Championships decider, would be a "big hurdle".
Southgate & England players continued on the field singing "Sweet Caroline" with fans after the final whistle, suggesting that was enough celebration for now.
"They have it, don't they? There was devastation on the pitch & I was part of it. We have to enjoy the fact that we are in the final but there is another big hurdle to win," Southgate said.
"Italy are a very good side. I have thought that over the years. They are in excellent form & they have defensive warriors who have gone through everything. It is a great game to look forward to.
"The finals are there to win. We will regroup & prepare properly. We need to recover tonight, it has taken a lot, both physically & mentally. Italy has done that too - although they have the fine There's an extra day to be had."
Harry Kane's strike in extra time secured a 2–1 win for England, who had conceded their first goal of the tournament, after half an hour.
Southgate said: "I'm so proud of the players. It's an incredible opportunity to be a part of this. The fans were unbelievable all night. We knew it wouldn't be straight. We told the players that we had to show resilience & after failures Come back & we did it.
"We've had three memorable games on the boom. We said we want to make memories for our country. Young people think it's always like that. I just had to tell [teenage Bukayo] Saka & [Jude] Bellingham . doesn't really work like that."
Southgate had suffered a Euro semi-final loss to England in 1996 & then three years earlier at the World Cup in Russia as manager & was happy to take the extra step.
"We had a night like this in Moscow & we managed to get it right," Southgate said.
"I thought we'd get there, but I knew we'd have a different kind of fight. Denmark has been undervalued as a team & they have bothered us a lot.
"While you have waited until we have to go through the semi-finals, the players - given the limited international experience of some of them - have done an incredible job."
