Roma have signed Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham for €40 million, it was announced on Tuesday. The 23-year-old has signed a five-year contract with Jose Mourinho's team.
Abraham finished the 2020-21 season as Chelsea's joint top scorer with 12 goals, but saw relatively limited time after Thomas Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard.
"You can understand when a club really wants you - and Roma immediately made their interest clear," Abraham said.
"Roma is a club that deserves to fight for titles and trophies. I have the experience to win big trophies and I want to be in those competitions again - so I want to help this team achieve it and reach the level." I want where Roma should be.
"It's a great honor to be number 9 at this club and I can't wait to get started and help the team."
Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel told a news conference last Wednesday that Abraham was not guaranteed a regular starting time at Stamford Bridge this season.
"I can totally understand that he wants more minutes," Tuchel said.
"So the decision will be 'how do we plan, what are Tammy's plans, does he fight back in the team from where he finished last season or does he want to change clubs to get the chance to be a regular starter? Is. ?'"
Chelsea signed Romelu Lukaku last Thursday, prompting speculation that Abraham would walk away from the club, and he was greeted by many Roma fans when he landed at the city's Ciampino airport on Sunday.
Roma general Tiago Pinto said, "Despite still being very young, with a huge amount of potential to improve, Tammy has already played over 200 games in his career and scored over 100 goals - and many more." Won big trophies too." said the manager.
"Leaving the Premier League, and the club he grew up in, shows very clearly how much he believes in this opportunity to develop his game and show what he can do at Roma.
"Bringing in players who have such an appetite and desire to play for our club is a fundamental part of our overall vision for this team which is extremely important to help build a sense of identity and belonging."
