Rob Font and Cody Garbrandt have a history of giving fight fans their money's worth, and both explosive bantamweight swear to do it again on Saturday when they square off in the main event of UFC Fight Night. Their significant conflict tops the nationally aired Main Card (7 pm ET) from the Apex facility in Las Vegas. There are four consecutive performance bonuses among fighters, and many observers believe that this matchup is likely to yield another such reward. Fourth-placed Garbrandt is coming off a knockout from veteran Rafael Asuncao, while third-placed Font received a bonus for the first-round stagnation of former title contender Marlon Mores.
The main event is a pick'em in William Hill Sportsbook's latest UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Nonbrandt Odds, with Font and Garbrandt listed at -110 (Risk $ 100 to win $ 100). In the co-main event, Yan Xiannon (-125) competes with veteran Carla Esparza (+105) in a battle of strawweight contenders. UFC Fight Night: Font vs Nonbrand Preview
Parker knows that the main event provides a matchup between the two most explosive fighters in a division that has seen recent movement at the top. Alzmann Sterling is the new champion after disqualifying former champion Petr Yan in the fourth round of their title match at UFC 259 in March.
UFC President Dana White has insisted on a re-match between Sterling and Yan, who were winning on the scorecard before landing on an illegal knee. However, Sterling has remained unimpressed about the rematch, leaving the door open for Saturday's winner for a potential title bid.
Font (18-4) has emerged as one of the division's most versatile fighters and his growing resume is difficult to ignore. His recent win began with a win over Sergio Pettis, who has since left the promotion and became Bellator's bantamweight champion.
The 33-year-old native of Massachusetts battled just once in 2020 and stopped former title-challenger Marlon Mores in the first round of December.
Garbrandt (12–3) won the title with one of the most memorable bantamweight performances in recent memory. He defeated long-reigning champion Dominic Cruz in his December 2016 fight with a cocktail of fundamentally sound and catchy moves. Garbrandt raised his hand by unanimous decision.
He lost the title and later a rematch against rival T.J., Dilshaw, who would later receive a two-year suspension related to the use of banned substances. The 29-year-old power striker broke a three-fight skid with a stoppage win over Rafael Asuncao last June. You can only see Parker's choice of iconic font vs. nonbrandt here.
Top UFC Fight Night: Font vs. Nonbrand Predictions
We will share one of Parker's UFC Fight Night pics here: He is backing Felicia Spencer (-150) to raise his hand against Norma Dumont (+130) at a meeting of women's featherweight contenders on the main card is.
Spencer (8-2) gained the attention of MMA observers with a 6–0 run through the Invicta FC promotion which included four wins by stoppages. He completed his tenure as the featherweight champion of the promotion and made his debut in the UFC by defeating veteran contender Megan Anderson in the first round. Spencer's only defeats were against former champions Chris Cyborg and Amanda Nunes. The 30-year-old Canadian lost a five-round decision in the title match last June.
Dumont (5-1), 30, is a Brazilian grappling specialist who split his first two UFC performances, both of which came last year. She is coming off a decision win against Ashlee Evans-Smith last November.
"Watch Spencer move into the clinic and make Dumont miserable with his speed against the cage," Parker told Sportsline.
