Halle, Germany - Andrey Rublev and Felix Auger-Aliassim showed good form ahead of Wimbledon as they reached the semi-finals of the Halle Open grass court on Friday.
Rublev defeated the 2011 winner, 37-year-old German Philipp Kollschreiber, 7-6(4) 6-2, after losing his last two Tour quarterfinals at Barcelona and Rome Clay.
Fourth-seeded Rublev was the only seeded player among the eight quarter-finalists. It was the first time in the 28-year history of the Halle tournament that only one seeded player reached that level.
The Russian will play Georgia's Nikoloz Basilashvili after defeating Lloyd Harris 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Up-and-coming Canadian Auger-Aliassim advanced to back-to-back semifinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over US qualifier Marcos Giron. Auger-Aliassim lost to Marin Cilic in the Stuttgart final last week, but responded by defeating Roger Federer in the second round in Halle.
Auger-Aliassim's next opponent is Ugo Humbert, who needed 2 1/2 hours to beat Sebastian Korda 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-4.
