India had mixed luck at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics on Sunday. Even though they failed to add to their medal tally, MC Mary Kom and PV Sindhu made winning starts. Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina were dropped in the early stages, while Manika Batra made a stunning comeback to become the first Indian to win two women's singles matches in table tennis at the Olympics. Meanwhile, the men's hockey team suffered a major defeat against Australia in Pool A.

India suffered their biggest ever defeat at the Olympics after a 7-1 loss against heavyweight Australia. India had defeated New Zealand 3-2 in their first match.
Boxing (Women's Flyweight, Round of 32 Preliminary Round)
Mary Kom defeated Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of the Dominican Republic 4-1.
Manish Kaushik lost to Luke McCormack 4-1 in the round of 32.
PV Sindhu began her quest for a second Olympic medal with an easy 21-7, 21-10 win over Israel's Ksenia Polikarpova in the group stage.
Table Tennis (Women's Singles Second Round)
Manika Batra defeated Margarita Pesotska of Ukraine in seven games.
Table Tennis (Men's Singles, Second Round)
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost in seven games to Lam Siu Hang of Hong Kong.
Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina lost 6-0, 6-7 (0), 8-10 to Nadia and Lyudmila Kichenok of Ukraine. The Indian worked for the match before breaking up and losing a one-sided tiebreak. In the super tiebreak, they came down 7–1 and made it 8–8, but lost the next two points to lose the match.
Shooting (Men's Skeet Shotgun Qualification, Day 1)
Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Mairaj Ahmed Khan finished 11th and 25th respectively on the first day of qualification. Day 2 and the final are on Monday, July 26.
Shooting (Women's 10m Air Pistol)
Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Singh Deswal failed to make the finals after finishing 12th and 13th respectively in the qualification.
Shooting (Men's 10m Air Rifle)
Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh Panwar failed to make the finals after finishing 26th and 32nd respectively in the qualification.
Men's Lightweight Double Sculls
Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh have qualified for the semi-finals A/B after finishing third in the repechage round.
Sailing (Women's Individual Laser Radial)
Netra Kumanan is 27th overall after two races (out of 10).
Sailing (Men's One Person Canoe - Laser Race 2)
Vishnu Saravanan's Race 2 was postponed due to bad weather. He finished 14th in Race 1.
Pranati Nayak finished with a total score of 42.565 on the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor and did not advance to the final.
Srihari Nataraja became the first Indian swimmer to swim in Category A heats. He clocked 54.31s to finish 27th in the men's 100m backstroke event.
Mana Patel, making her Olympic debut, finished with a time of 1:05.20 in the women's 100m backstroke. She finished second out of three in the Classification B heats and could not advance.
