UEFA President Alexandre Ceferin has said that the Euro 2020 pan-continental format was not appropriate and should not happen again.
For the first time in the competition's 61-year history, the tournament has been held at multiple venues across Europe, using 11 venues, down from the original 12 that were initially played in Dublin after the Games elsewhere. was transferred.
But with matches being played in London, St Petersburg, Baku, Munich, Rome, Amsterdam, Bucharest, Copenhagen, Glasgow and Seville, some teams had to travel thousands of kilometers in a short time to get to the Games, while travel restrictions imposed When matches were held at different venues it became difficult for fans to support their country.
"I won't support it anymore." Ceferin said. “I think it is very challenging, it is not fair in a way that some teams have to travel more than 10,000 km and others 1,000 for example.
"It's not fair to the fans. Some fans had to be in Rome and they had to be in Baku the next day or so. Four and a half hour flight.
"So it's a tricky one, it's an interesting idea but it's hard to implement and I don't think we'll do it again."
Despite the challenges with the format, Ceferin highlighted that Euro 2020 will be a memorable tournament.
"It's definitely a special Euro." she added. "I will still remember the euro as one of the most interesting euros, at the beginning of mediocrity, I hope, in the world."
