Top story: Man City piques Griezmann's interest
Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has admitted he has made a personal call to Barcelona forward Antoine Griezmann about a possible move to the Etihad Stadium this summer. This was reported in the French title Footmercato, which states that City are in "good contact" with France's international agent.
Representatives for City and Griezmann were asked to keep in touch last summer, although City's finances - not helped by the coronavirus pandemic - prevented them from making a concrete offer. However, Barcelona's own financial situation is at a critical point and means they are now looking to trim their own wage bill, and although City are said to be targeting Harry Kane as a priority, Griezmann can make a very solid Plan B.
City's interest in Kane is said to have "cooled" as a result of the fee charged to award the award to the England captain away from north London, and so Griezmann may have been the right solution. Guardiola and Griezmann are said to have a good relationship, which may have helped facilitate the move.

The Blues board is said to be finalizing a deal under which the 19-year-old Albania international will stay at the club until June 2026. Broja scored 10 goals during his stay at the Eredivisie, and now joins Chelsea's first team in the preseason. Training.
Denmark centre-back Joachim Andersen is a target for Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, Leicester City and Crystal Palace, according to the Sun. Andersen, who impressed last season on loan with Fulham, is at French club Lyon, having paid £25m for the 25-year-old's transfer in 2019. Spurs and United are longtime fans of the long defender, who started his career at FC Twente and came on as a substitute in Wednesday's Euro 2020 semi-final against England.
Real Madrid face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the signing of Sevilla FC's in-demand centre-back Jules Coundé, according to Sport. They report that Los Blancos are desperate for cover in the central defense after Sergio Ramos' move to Paris Saint-Germain and the possible departure of Rafael Varane, Tottenham could have bigger pockets than the Spanish giants. Spurs could be willing to pay €55 to €60m, which is more than what Madrid will pay. Condé's release clause is set at €80m, although Sevilla are ready to negotiate any offer over €70m.
- Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano is reporting that Benfica is approaching a deal with Internazionale for midfielder Joao Mario. Twenty-eight-year-old Mario spent last season on loan at Sporting Lisbon and was widely tipped to join the club on a permanent basis, but was unwilling to meet Inter's valuation. Benfica president Rui Costa is eager to sign a deal next week, despite the fact that Sporting is threatening legal action, which he believes will allow Inter to stop the player from any of Sporting's domestic rivals. There is a clause preventing carry in.
- According to the Mail, Arsenal are attempting to lure young Kido Taylor-Hart into a new long-term deal in an effort to spur interest from other Premier League clubs as well as Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium. The 18-year-old's contract expired at the beginning of this summer and other clubs were making the rounds, although Arsenal see left-wing Taylor-Hart as a key part of his future. As such, a three-year deal has been offered, and he could join the first team on their preseason tour of Scotland and the US.
