Lady Gaga announces 10th anniversary edition of Born This Way featuring LGBTQIA+ artists
Lady Gaga has announced a special 10th anniversary edition of 'Born This Way'.
The seminal 2011 LP became a decade old over the weekend, and the pop superstar has announced that the upcoming release will include six new recitals of the track featuring LGBTQIA + artists.
The first to be released is Big Freedia's take on 'Judas', which is out now, and the full collection will arrive on June 18.
Fans can also expect cover of 'Highway Unicorn', 'You & I', 'Mary the Night', 'The Age of Glory' and the title track of the album.
In a statement, Big Freedia said: "'Judas' was my favorite song when it originally came out, so I really wanted to cover it.
"To me, 'Judas' is a love song when someone messes you up. I'm sure I had an experience with it. Who can't relate?"
A few days after Gaga was awarded West Hollywood's Key to the City on Born This Way Day (23.05.21), 'Born This Way' came to LP News Anniversary.
The 35-year-old singer's chart-topping record was awarded for its cultural impact.
West Hollywood Mayor Lindsey P. Horvath presented the Grammy-winner with the city's key and declared May 23 as Born This Way Day.
Horvath told Gaga: "Thank you for encouraging us to love and be proud of ourselves!"
A painting of the album's title was unveiled as a flag of pride on Robertson Boulevard in honor of the LGBTQIA + community, and the 'Stupid Love' hitmaker vowed to "always be here to this day".
Gaga said: "Thank you for this key. You have been - I'm sure it will sound strange to some people, not me - you have been the motherf ***** key to my heart for a long time."
"I will respect it and I will cherish it, and I promise that I will always be here for this day.
"I will be here on this day to celebrate with you, to feel happy with you, to cry with you, to laugh with you, because you know what we are? We are poets, and we are just talking to each other "I love you, let's have a good time!"
The 'Always Remember Us This Way' singer also shared a series of photos of the day on social media and shared how the album was inspired by a black gay activist, Carl Bean, a liberal, founder of the Unity Fellowship Church Movement. Protestant denomination that is welcoming gay, lesbian and bisexual African Americans.
Gaga captioned the post: "Born This Way, My Song and Album," was inspired by Carl Bean, a gay black religious activist who campaigned, sang and wrote about being "Born This Way". His initial work from 11 years before I was born was in 1975. Thanks to decades of tireless love, bravery, and singing reason. So we can all feel happy, because we deserve happiness. Because we have the right to inspiration Are eligible for tolerance, acceptance and freedom for all. (Sic) "
