Georginio Wijnaldum opened up about the reasons for his departure from Liverpool this summer, saying he didn't feel "loved & appreciated" by some at the club.
Wijnaldum, 30, joined Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer following the end of his contract at Anfield after five years with the Premier League club.
The midfielder was instrumental in helping Liverpool win the 2019 Champions League as well as the club's first Premier League title the following year, but said he does not feel valued by some members.
"There was a moment when I didn't feel loved & appreciated," he told reporters. "Not my teammates, not the guys at Melwood [training ground].
"From them I know, I can say that they all love me & I love them. It was not from that side. And the other side."
Wijnaldum was given a guard of honor in his final game at Liverpool after claiming a 2-0 win against Crystal Palace to finish in the top four last season.
He was praised by the sporting & coaching staff & received a huge cheer from Liverpool supporters, but he said he was not appreciated by some fans online.
"I must say there was social media too," he said. "When it got bad, I was the player he blamed - that I wanted to leave. Every day in training & games, I gave everything to get it to a good end because, over the years, Liverpool's It meant a lot to me & the way the fans were treating me in the stadium.
"My feeling was that the fans in the stadium & the fans on social media were two different types. The fans in the stadium always supported me. Even when they came back [after the Covid-19 break], before Knowing from the very beginning that I was going to leave, he still supported me & finally, he gave me a great farewell.
"On social media, if we lost, I was to blame. There was a moment when I was like: 'Wow. If only they knew what I was doing to stay fit & play every game.'
"Other players may have said: 'Well, I'm not fit.' You find players in their final year who are like: 'I'm not playing because it's a risk.' I did the opposite."
