Sources have told ESPN that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's summer recovery could threaten the Manchester United stars. Inquiries by agents and intermediaries about the availability of players such as Anthony Martial and Donny van de Beek have led to a response from the club that "every player has a realistic assessment."
Sources have told ESPN that realistic offers for squad players will be considered during the summer transfer window, but Solskjaer expects the bulk of his core group to remain.
Van de Beek endured a difficult first season at Old Trafford following his £40million move from Ajax, but sources say the midfielder is ready to fight for his place. The 24-year-old is on leave after being pulled from the Netherlands squad for Euro 2020 due to injury.
Marshall has not played since March following a knee injury. Should he stay, he could find increased competition for a place in Solskjaer's squad with United, who are close to signing a deal with Borussia Dortmund for winger Jadon Sancho. The remaining details, such as the payment structure and bonuses, are yet to be settled, but sources have told ESPN that a problematic gap in valuation between the two clubs has mostly gone away.
Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot and Andreas Pereira, who spent the previous season on loan with Milan and Lazio, may return, while Jesse Lingard's future is yet to be decided.
Lingard impressed on loan at West Ham at the end of last season and has one year left on his contract at Old Trafford. The 28-year-old is keen to make sure he gets first-team opportunities wherever he plays next season as he looks to win back his place in Gareth Southgate's England squad ahead of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Sources also told ESPN that Axel Tuanzebe is keen to secure a season-long loan move after appearing in just nine league games last season. There has already been interest from clubs in the Premier League and abroad.
United are set to make decisions on young James Garner, Amad Diallo, Shola Shoretire, Anthony Elanga and Hannibal Mezbury as the new season nears.
The group is expected to play a role during the preseason before making a decision on whether to go out on loan. Goalkeeper Nathan Bishop has agreed a season-long loan deal with League Two side Mansfield Town.
